What Namaz Circle is

A prayer companion: your five daily prayers, a private circle of family or friends who can see whether you prayed, prayer times, qibla, tasbih, and a shared map of masjids.

Your account

You sign in with a handle you choose and a 4-digit PIN. There is no email address and no password, and we do not ask for a phone number. Your account is yours whether or not you are in a circle — you can use the app entirely on your own.

What we collect

  • Your handle and name — the handle you sign in with, and the display name you choose. You can set a different display name in each circle.
  • A 4-digit PIN — stored only as a bcrypt hash. We cannot read it.
  • Prayer marks — which prayers you marked, when, and whether on time or late. This is a record of religious practice, so we treat it as sensitive: it is shown only to circles you have joined, and only as much as you allow (see below).
  • Location (optional) — if you allow it, your device rounds your position to about a kilometre before sending it, and that is what we store: one coordinate, replaced each time, never a movement history. It is used to compute your prayer times, your qibla direction, and masjids near you. When you open the masjid map, a finer position is sent with that request so distances and walking times are right; it is used to answer the request and is not stored. You can skip location entirely and pick a city, or follow a zone set by a circle's admin.
  • Push subscription — if you turn on prayer alerts, the token your browser or phone issues for delivering them.
  • Masjid pins — masjids you add or adopt (name, position, jama'ah times) become part of the shared public map. They are attributed to your account internally and shown to all users without your name.

What we do NOT do

  • No advertising, and no advertising SDKs. We do not collect or use an advertising ID.
  • No sale or rental of your data to anyone, and no sharing of your prayer record outside the circles you join.
  • No movement tracking — one coarse point, replaced each time, only if you allow location at all.
  • No contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or files access.

Who can see what

Each circle you join has its own visibility setting, which you control:
  • Everything — that circle sees your five prayers, your week and your streak.
  • Streak only — that circle sees counts and streak, but not which prayer.
  • Nothing — that circle sees only that you are a member.

Set it per circle: your family can see everything while colleagues see nothing. Hidden data is withheld on our server, not merely hidden in the app. Nobody outside a circle sees your record. Masjid pins and their jama'ah times are public to all users. A circle's admin can manage members of that circle only.

Where it lives

Data is stored on our own server (OVHcloud, Germany — EU) and encrypted in transit (HTTPS everywhere). Prayer-time and qibla calculations run on your device or our server — never via third-party APIs. The masjid map uses OpenStreetMap tiles; map tile requests go to OpenStreetMap under their privacy policy.

Leaving and deletion

You can leave any circle yourself, at any time, from the Circles screen — your record stays with you and the circle stops seeing it.

To delete your account, open Account → Delete account and confirm with your PIN. It is immediate: your handle, PIN, every prayer you have marked, your streak, your circle memberships, your notifications and your saved location are removed. Masjid pins you added remain on the shared map (other people depend on them) but stop being linked to you. Full detail, including what to do if you cannot sign in, is at /delete-account.

Children

Namaz Circle is not intended for children under 13, and we do not direct it at them. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13; if you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will remove it. Because the app lets people see each other in a circle and add masjids to a shared map, it is built for teenagers and adults.

If any of this changes

We may add optional sign-in with Google, so a streak survives a lost phone. If we do, it is an additional way to sign in — handle and PIN keep working — and we would then store your Google account identifier and email address for that purpose.

We may also open a marketplace, so Muslim-owned businesses near you can list what they sell and you can buy from them inside the app. To be plain about what that would and would not mean:

  • No third-party advertising networks, no advertising SDKs, and no advertising ID — that does not change.
  • Listings would be chosen by where you are and what you are looking for, never by your prayer record. Your worship is not an input to what you are shown, and it is not sold or shared.
  • If you buy something, we would collect what an order needs — delivery address, contact number, order and payment reference — and share it with that seller and the payment provider, for that order only.
  • Browsing or buying would be entirely optional. The prayer app works the same whether you ever open it.

None of that exists yet. Before any of it starts we will say so here, update the Google Play data-safety declaration in the same release, and ask for the consent the law requires. When this policy changes, the date above changes and the app shows an update notice.
